ABOUT US
History
The New York Skyriders, Inc., has operated since 1980 primarily as an AAU team offering counseling and college placement services to youth in Queens, N.Y, focused in the Jamaica and Far Rockaway communities. The program was funded largely by private support from the Skyriders’ Principals. It became clear, however, that additional support services were needed, and the number of student athletes in need of those services increased as well. The facility being used was no longer sufficient to address those needs. Therefore, in 1997 , the decision was made to incorporate as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, and seek additional support to continue and expand program offerings to youth in underserved communities.

Amir Sultan
Amir Sultan was born in Brooklyn, and resides in Queens, NY. Mr. Sultan attended high school in New York City where he was a city finalist in track, played JV Basketball at Long Island City HS and Varsity Basketball at Springfield HS. Mr. Sultan has been around the “New York City Game” for more than 35 years as a player, and then a coach and instructor.
Some of the students Mr. Sultan has mentored and coached are presently considered top players at well-known colleges and universities around the country. Equally important, many of his former players have earned their degree and are positive role models themselves; returning to their neighborhoods and communities to help the youth understand the importance of academics and life skills, and how it relates to success in athletes.
